Route of the Cerezuelo river

A route that starts from the Plaza de Santa María, towards the Castillo de la Yedra, having to turn left to enter a space closed by large poplars, which in combination with the crystal clear waters of the river forming pools, will make this route an environment like no other to enjoy nature. Using the various wooden bridges, you can cross the river to continue this magnificent expedition.

Since ancient times, the Cerezuelo River has been the central axis of the life of the inhabitants of Cazorla. And since it was born to cross the town, this river is responsible for watering the orchards, moving flour mills and was an important producer of electricity. But it is also one of the most beautiful corners of the area, offering spectacular scenery while the visitor climbs towards the Castillo de la Yedra. For this reason it is one of the best routes for lovers of rural tourism and for families with children who wish to book any of the many rural accommodations in the area and spend a few days in the countryside in the town of Cazorla.

If you follow the river, you can choose between two options. The first would be to go down a narrow path that is located on the left and that will take you in a circular direction towards the place of departure. This route has an extension of about 2.4 kilometers and starts at the bridge next to the mill of La Fárraga, reaching the immediate vicinity of the crossing that leads to the hermitage of San Sebastián. But if you decide to opt for the second route, leaving towards the Castle you will arrive at the municipality of La Iruela, passing through the hermitage of the Virgen de la Cabeza. Along that route you will find sources of crystal clear waters and three viewpoints that offer spectacular views of the Natural Park of the Sierra de Cazorla.

Both routes are very simple so they are perfect for those hikers who want to go for a walk or families with children. But they are also ideal to discover the most beautiful corners of the area without making an intense effort, being able to enjoy the path to the fullest.
